Premier League Burnley beat their League One Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers 2-0 in round three of the Carabao Cup at Ewood Park.

Burnley struggled to find any space in the opening stages of the game as Rovers’ players gave them no time on the ball.
Ashley Barnes had the first opportunity on 23 minutes when he turned on the edge of the area and saw his strike tipped away by Rovers keeper David Raya.
However, the Premier League side did take the lead on 27 minutes when Robbie Brady’s cross from the right channel was met by Jack Cork and the summer signing from Swansea guided his header past Raya from six yards.
Barnes spurned another chance to put the Clarets ahead but he lashed the ball over in the middle of the area when Rovers failed to clear a cross into their box.
However the Clarets did take a two-goal cushion into the interval when Brady collected a Cork pass down the left side of the area and hit a rising strike from a tight angle high into Raya’s net.
Chances were few and far between after the break with Burnley’s recent £15million signing Chris Wood, who came off the bench to replace the injured Jon Walters, seeing a 59th-minute header drop over the crossbar on his debut.
Blackburn thought they had pulled a goal back on 82 minutes when Dominic Samuel poked the ball over the line from close range, but an offside flag was up against him.
