Stokes gets ODI call

7th December 2017, 06:04 by Michael Holland

Ben Stokes and Alex Hales are in England's one-day squad to face Australia but there is still a big doubt over whether they will play.

Stokes left out of the Test side after being arrested following an incident outside a Bristol nightclub, and is not available for selection until he finds out whether or not he has been charged with assault.

Hales was also outside the club in Bristol but was not arrested and was told earlier this week that he would not be facing any charges, making him available for selection.

However, being named in the squad does not mean they will definitely play, although head coach Trevor Bayliss admits it would be good to have them back.

"It will be good," he said. "They are two quality players in a successful one-day team over the last two years.

"I am sure there will be scrutiny. We won't know until it comes along. We have got to adjust to that at some stage."

Once a decision has been made on whether Stokes will be charged, the England and Wales Cricket Board will decide on disciplinary action.
