Ferrari chief refusing to give up

12th October 2017, 17:33 by Bobbie Jackson

Maurizio Arrivabene insists Ferrari are refusing to give up hope that Sebastian Vettel can lift the world title this term.

The German slipped 59 points behind Championship leader Lewis Hamilton after being forced to retire from the Japan Grand Prix last time out due to reliability issues.

Vettel also failed to finish the Singapore Grand Prix in September after crashing out on the first corner, while he had to settle for fourth place in Malaysia on October 1 after engine failure saw him start from the back of the grid.

The 30-year-old has just four races left this season to try and catch his Mercedes rival and although it looks unlikely Arrivabene insists the team will not give up.

Arrivabene said: "Things happened, they were not pleasant, but we never give up.

"To win against Mercedes - and this year we have already beaten them - you just have to push even more.

"We are not inferior to them.

"Our car has proved to be very, very good."
