Merc boss remains confident of success

19th June 2017, 15:54 by Jack Ogalbe

Mercedes chief Toto Wolff is adamant his team still has the fastest car on the grid, despite failing to dominate this season.

The Silver Arrows have been the pace-setters in recent years but appear to have been caught by Ferrari following the introduction of the new regulations.

Despite leading the Constructors' Championship, it is the Scuderia's Sebastian Vettel who tops the Drivers' standings, with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas second and third.

Wolff has previously admitted that he and his staff have found it difficult to get to the bottom of the W08's issues and has even jokingly called it a "diva".

However, speaking ahead of this weekend's race in Azerbaijan, the Austrian is confident they will get things right and insists they still have the fastest car amongst the competition.

"We've joked about it being a bit of a diva, but it's a good car, though sometimes it can be difficult," said Wolff. "This is something we have to accept so that we can understand and appreciate the many positive characteristics that it has.

"I believe our car is the fastest on the grid and I wouldn't want any other."
