Rahm working on major formula

Spaniard Jon Rahm has revealed he is working hard on finding the formula needed to win a major championship.

Rahm only turned professional in 2016 but has enjoyed arguably one of the quickest rises to the upper echelons of the game, and has been named the European Tour's rookie of the year.

The 23-year-old lost out to American Dustin Johnson in the final of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play this year before going on to win the Irish Open by six shots in June.

Spain's number one, who has climbed to fifth in the world rankings, sits fourth in the Race to Dubai standings and also finished fifth in the FedEx Cup.

The only disappointment for Rahm has been his displays in the four majors, with his best result a tie for 27th on his Masters debut in April, but he is hoping to find a method that will help him achieve better results.

"I think it's important to learn what the magic formula is for you," he was quoted as saying by the Scotsman. "You have players like Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus who never played the week before a major. They practised and they rested. You have players like Phil (Mickelson) who plays every week before the major because he thinks it's going to help him play better.

"After one year I still don't know what my formula is. I haven't played my best golf in the majors and hopefully what I'm doing next year, which is resting the week before in most of them, helps out."
