Cloudy Dream to miss Gold Cup

14th November 2017, 11:27 by James Mason

Top chaser Cloudy Dream will miss the BetVictor Gold Cup at Cheltenham on Saturday because of an entry error.

Cloudy Dream, who finished second at Aintree in the 188Bet Monet's Garden Old Roan Limited Handicap Chase last time out, was due to feature in Saturday's Gold Cup at Prestbury Park.

However, the seven-year-old grey gelding will not be participating after assistant trainer Ruth Jefferson confirmed entry for the BetVictor.com Handicap Chase on the Monday by accident.

Trainer Malcolm Jefferson's wife Sue said on Tuesday: "We are absolutely devastated. Since Malcolm became ill, Ruth [Jefferson, assistant trainer] has done the entries and she has done a fine job.

"But yesterday she must have clicked on the wrong race so instead of confirming the entry for the Gold Cup, as she intended, she entered him in the other race. She is devastated.

"We checked with Stuart Middleton at the BHA but he said there was nothing he could do. Malcolm just couldn't believe it. But whatever we feel, it's so much worse for his owner Trevor Hemmings and we're all desperately disappointed for him."
