Douvan to miss Betfair Tingle Creek

7th December 2017, 12:12 by Tom Hill

Trainer Willie Mullins has confirmed Douvan will not feature in the Betfair Tingle Creek at Sandown on Saturday.

Rumours on Wednesday suggested the seven-year-old could miss out and he drifted in the ante-post betting.

Douvan was not among declarations for the Grade One contest on Thursday morning but he still has entries in the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase and the Hilly Way Chase at Cork on Sunday.

Confirming his decision, Mullins told reporters: "Douvan worked very well at the Curragh on Tuesday. He cantered yesterday. He did another little bit early this morning and I wasn't entirely happy with him.

"Maybe he hadn't fully recovered from what he did on Tuesday and I decided not to declare him for Sandown. No decision has been made regarding when he will have his first run of the season."

Mullins has also left out Un De Sceaux and just four runners were declared for the Sandown feature race. The contest was reopened once again on Thursday and Fox Norton is well fancied alongside Special Tiara.

Ar Mad, Politologue, Sir Valentino and Charbel are also set to run alongside the Henry de Bromhead-trained Ordinary World.
