Melbourne Cup the hope for Nakeeta

12th September 2017, 12:36 by Alex Jack

Ebor winner Nakeeta is being aimed at the prestigious Emirates Melbourne Cup, according to handler Iain Jardine.

Jardine had been reluctant to confirm whether his charge would be making the trip Down Under after impressing recently.

However, after being given a weight of 53kg (8st 5lb), Jardine has confirmed Nakeeta will be making the journey for the high-profile race.

He said: "I think we'll go.

"He's got the same mark as Heartbreak City (last year's Ebor winner who finished a close second in Melbourne) and he should get a run.

"I'd be hopeful of getting him there in the same form he is now and if he is, he must have a chance."
