Widnes ring the changes

21st April 2017, 09:08 by Nick Harris

Widnes have made seven changes to their squad as they look for their second win of the season when they face St Helens.

The Vikings have yet to taste success this season at the Halton Stadium but appear to be improving game-on-game and Denis Betts’ men will have high hopes going into the class with St Helens.

Widnes gave themselves a boost last weekend with a spirited second-half fightback against the Leeds Rhinos after being 30-6 down at half-time. They fought back to within eight points before Leeds stretched away at the end.

Scrum-half Joe Mellor returns, with Sam Brooks, Alex Gerrard, Danny Walker and Matt Whitley also coming in as Widnes make seven changes to the squad from the Leeds game.

St Helens prop Kyle Amor is available after a disciplinary panel ruled his red card was enough punishment in the derby loss to Wigan.

Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook's inclusion is the only change to the Saints squad.
