Murray visits hip specialist

17th July 2017, 16:00 by Craig Smithson

Andy Murray has made the trip to Switzerland to see a specialist who can help cure the hip injury that wrecked his Wimbledon bid.

The 30-year-old managed to maintain his place at the top of the world rankings on Monday despite crashing out of the grass-court Grand Slam via a quarter-final defeat to Sam Querrey last Wednesday.

Murray went into the tournament struggling with a hip problem and revealed that it played a big part in his inability to defend his Wimbledon crown.

He was at the All England Club on Sunday to watch his brother Jamie win the mixed doubles title with Martina Hingis before jetting out to Switzerland.

Murray will hope the specialist can get to the bottom of the issue in time for his planned appearance at the Rogers Cup from August 7 before the final Slam of the year, the US Open, which starts at Flushing Meadows on August 28.
