Sharapova misses Cincinnati Open
Former world number one Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open next week with a left forearm injury.
Sharapova, currently ranked 149 in the world after a 15-month ban for a failed drugs test, suffered the injury in the first round of the West Classic earlier this month.
The 30-year-old Russian has indicated the injury is not too serious, as she says missing the Cincinnati event is "a precaution" to ensure she is fit for the US Open.
However, Sharapova will need a wildcard to feature in the final Grand Slam of the year so it is not guaranteed she will feature in New York, with the US Open set to begin on August 28.
