Brook v Cook on Wilder-Parker undercard

13th June 2018, 16:22 by Aidan Perkins

Kell Brook will fight Canadian Brandon Cook on the Dillian Whyte-Joseph Parker undercard at the O2 on July 28.

The Sheffield-born boxer takes on Cook in a world title eliminator next month and will again take to the canvas at super-welterweight level after impressing on his first outing in that division when he had too much for Sergey Rabchenko in March.

Brook is aiming for a future world title shot under the guidance of promoter Eddie Hearn and may have his sights set on the likes of Terence Crawford or domestic rival Amir Khan.

Cook will be no pushover, though, as the Canadian has 20 wins from 21 fights and is very highly thought of at welterweight level.

Hearn is excited for the bout and believes another victory for Brook will push him towards a title shot.

He said: "Kell is back at the scene of his epic shootout with Gennady Golovkin to face highly-ranked Canadian Brandon Cook in a world title eliminator that will put him in pole position for a shot at all the world champions."

Elsewhere on the Whyte-Parker undercard, Irish star Katie Taylor will defend her WBA and IBF world titles against mandatory challenger Kimberley Connor, while it has also been announced that Conor Benn will fight Cedrick Peynaud in a welterweight rematch.
