Carroll ready to make history

15th March 2019, 12:59 by Tom Hill

Jono Carroll says it is his destiny to become a world champion as he prepares to face IBF super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer.

The 26-year-old has yet to taste defeat but will face the toughest opponent of his career when he fights at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia.

Carroll has won 16 fights so far and will fight on the same bill as Katie Taylor's unification showdown with Rose Volante.

Farmer remains the heavy favourite as he continues his winning streak although Carroll insists he can pull off a shock win.

"I said I was going to do this a long time ago. I said I always wanted an American champion because you haven't truly made it unless you've made it in America," Carroll told Sky Sports.

"I knew this was going to happen, I was hoping this was going to be an American, so I'm delighted it's all just panned out exactly like I said it would pan out. The occasion is something that I was basically preparing for since I was 16."
