Chelsea forward still on Bayern wishlist

25th April 2019, 10:19 by Gareth Freeman

Bayern Munich could still make a move to land Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer despite his injury blow.

The England international faces around six months on the sidelines after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon in Chelesea's draw with Burnley on Monday.

Hudson-Odoi is likely to miss the start of next season as a result, but Bayern president Uli Hoeness says the Bavarians could still make a move.

"(Chairman) Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and (sporting director) Hasan Salihamidzic have said that he is an interesting player," he said.

"I think we keep thinking about it. But he's just (been) on the operating table. Therefore it makes no sense to comment on this."

Bayern have identified Hudson-Odoi as one of their top targets as they seek replacements for veterans Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, who will both leave at the end of the campaign.

The German club saw four bids knocked back by Chelsea in January and the Premier League club say they won't sell the 18-year-old this summer, despite the fact his contract expires next summer.

It remains to be seen whether or not Hudson-Odoi's injury blow will soften their stance in regards to a potential sale, and Bayern may still have to wait until next year if they are to sign the forward.
