Rovers consider move for free agent Holtby

Blackburn Rovers are reportedly weighing up whether to offer Lewis Holtby a contract after his release from Hamburg this summer.

Germany international Holtby was a regular first-team fixture for Hamburg last season, making 26 league appearances and scoring four goals, but the club decided against offering him a new contract.

The 28-year-old has been searching for new employers throughout the summer but he is yet to be snapped up despite reportedly having discussions with a number of English teams.

However, the midfielder could be heading for Ewood Park with recent reports suggesting Rovers have started talks over a deal until the end of the 2019/20 Championship campaign.

Tony Mowbray has already utilised the free agent market this summer, having brought in Stewart Downing and Bradley Johnson for nothing, and the manager could be about to add another new face to his squad.

Holtby, who played for Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham during his two-year spell in England from 2013-2015, is said to be keen on wrapping up a deal over the coming days.

It is claimed talks are progressing well between both parties and an agreement could be reached soon.
