Thomas favourite to land Brentford post

11th October 2018, 14:18 by Chris Rivers

Interim Brentford head coach Thomas Frank is under consideration to replace Dean Smith permanently following his exit.

The Bees are on the hunt for a new first-team boss after Smith left to takeover as Aston Villa on Tuesday evening, with former England captain John Terry to act as his assistant at Villa Park.

Terry's appointment meant Smith had to leave Frank at Griffin Park and the former Brondby boss will act as interim head coach until the Brentford hierarchy settles on a permanent successor.

Co-sporting directors Phil Giles and Rasmus Ankersen are set to meet on Thursday to discuss Smith's replacement and it is understood both men are fans of Frank, who has previously coached Denmark’s Under-16, Under-17 and Under-19 sides.

Frank is the odds-on favourite with most bookmakers for the job given Brentford have a tendency to promote from within, with ex-Aston Villa and Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo next in the betting.
