Robins bring in Rodri

16th October 2019, 20:07 by Tom Hill

Championship outfit Bristol City have confirmed the signing of Spanish striker Rodrigo Rios Lozano on a deal until January.

The 29-year-old had been without a club since leaving Granada in the summer, but he has impressed City coach Lee Johnson while on trial.

Johnson had been on the lookout for a new striker since losing Benik Afobe for the season due to a serious knee injury.

Afobe, who is on loan from Stoke City, suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage in September but Rodri now arrives to make sure Johnson has four strikers to choose from.

Andreas Weimann, Famara Diedhiou and Antoine Semenyo will compete with Rodri for a starting jersey, and the Spaniard says he cannot wait to get started at Ashton Gate.

He told Robins TV: “It’s my job to score goals and I will try my best for this club and this team, and I want them to be in the first place.

“My first impressions of the manager are that I think he is a good coach and a good person and that’s very important for me. I want to thank him for the opportunity to play in England again.”

Bristol City are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Luton Town in the Championship.
