Derby chasing Aberdeen skipper

11th April 2019, 14:56 by Dan McCarthy

Derby County are in talks to sign Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie on a pre-contract agreement, according to reports.

The 27-year-old has been with Aberdeen since 2015 after joining from Inverness Caledonian Thistle and has made 184 appearances for Derek McInnes' side, netting 12 goals.

His form for the Dons led to a first-ever Scotland call-up last year and he has made five appearances at senior level for his country.

The midfielder's contract is set to expire with the Pittodrie outfit at the end of the season and it is understood they have allowed him to speak to Derby about a potential move.

Shinnie, who is naturally a left-back but can also fill in as a central midfielder, is also thought to be wanted by Championship rivals Bristol City and Sheffield United, as well as Scottish Premiership clubs Rangers and Hearts.

However, Derby look to have stolen a march on their rivals as they attempt to secure a free transfer deal.
