Lampard expecting close finish

15th April 2019, 16:08 by Nick Harris

As the season draws to a close, Derby boss Frank Lampard says he expects the race for Championship play-off places to go to the wire.

The Rams are two points behind the final play-off spot which is occupied by Bristol City but there is plenty to be resolved and the Rams travel to the Robins on April 27.

Middlesbrough are also still in the mix and with Hull also having a chance, Lampard says nothing is guaranteed.

He said: "It has tightened up again, and I don't think it is the last twist. I think we are going to see a few. I think it will go to the wire.

"The fact we have to play Bristol City, that will be important as long as we do well in the games before that.

"The next two games are huge for us. If we can get results at Birmingham and against QPR over the Easter period, I think it will leave us certainly knocking on the door of the top six."
