Cowley delighted for Huddersfield youngster

2nd December 2019, 15:15 by Bobbie Jackson

Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley has praised Josh Koroma following his cameo appearance against Bristol City on Saturday.

Koroma signed for Huddersfield in June, prior to Cowley’s appointment, and his chances have been limited with the Championship club.

The Terriers snapped the forward up from Leyton Orient following their promotion to League Two although he has found it difficult to adapt to life at a higher level.

After graduating from Orient’s academy, Koroma made his senior debut in 2015-16 and went on to make 106 appearances across all competitions.

The 21-year-old’s bow for Huddersfield came in the League Cup loss to Lincoln City on August 13 and he is yet to start a league game.

Cowley turned to Koroma at half-time on Saturday as Huddersfield trailed 2-1 at Bristol City but he was unable to inspire a turnaround as they went down 5-2.

Despite falling to a heavy defeat, Cowley was pleased the young forward got some valuable minutes under his belt.

Cowley said: “I was pleased for Josh because he hasn’t had it easy since I’ve been here.”

The former Lincoln boss believes Koroma, who is still searching for his first goal at the club, is listening to instructions and feels Saturday’s outing will be hugely beneficial in the long run.

Cowley added: “I thought he did great and he will take a lot from it.

“I have wanted to get him playing and fighting in a certain way – and we have all really tried to affect his behaviours without the ball.”

Karlan Grant‘s form has made it difficult for Cowley to consider other options, having scored 11 league goals this term, and Koroma will have to continue to be patient.
