Pukki named Championship Player of the Season
Norwich forward Teemu Pukki was confirmed as the Championship Player of the Season at the EFL Awards on Sunday night.
The Finland international was a low-key arrival at Carrow Road from Brondby last summer, but he has spearheaded Norwich's rise to the summit of the Championship standings, scoring 26 league goals - three more than anyone else in the division.
Pukki beat off some stiff competition from Sheffield United captain Billy Sharp and Birmingham marksmen Che Adams to claim the top prize and he was delighted to see his contribution recognised, although he knows Norwich still have work to do if they are to achieve their ultimate goal of promotion.
"It's an honour to win this award, I'm really happy for the recognition," Pukki said. There are many great players here tonight, so it's special to win this award.
"I have really enjoyed this season so far in what is a fantastic league, but we know there are still many big games to come."
There was double reason for Norwich to celebrate at the awards as full-back Max Aarons was named Young Player of the Season, an honour that caps what has been a breakthrough campaign for the 19-year-old, who has featured 35 times in the second tier.
Norwich have won eight matches on the spin and currently sit seven points clear at the top of the standings ahead of their home clash with Reading on Wednesday.
