Grimes delighted with Cooper’s impact

5th September 2019, 16:27 by Tom Hill

Swansea City captain Matt Grimes believes boss Steve Cooper has already made a big impact since taking charge and has improved the "mentality" at the club.

The Swans were tipped to struggle during the 2019/20 campaign after selling Daniel James to Manchester United.

Record signings Borja Bastian and Andre Ayew were also expected to move on, but the Swans kept hold of the pair and now sit top of the Championship table.

Swansea have enjoyed their best-ever start to a league campaign after winning five of their first six matches.

Grimes believes Cooper’s positive mindset and management style should be praised, and he is excited to see how far his side can progress.

He told the club’s official website: “Since the first week of pre-season, he has installed a winning mentality in the group. Maybe we didn’t have that so much last year.

“We know that our teammates are besides us and will fight tooth and nail to give us the best chance of winning the game. Everyone knows their job and is pulling the club in the right direction.

“At the moment, our team spirit is unbelievable, and the connection with the fans is of a different class. We just need to keep building on that.”
