McBurnie targeting greater haul for Swansea

10th July 2019, 19:16 by Bobbie Jackson

Oli McBurnie is hoping to build on his breakthrough season as Swansea push for promotion in 2019-20.

The Leeds-born striker joined the Swans in 2015 but had to wait patiently for first-team opportunities at the Liberty Stadium.

He was shipped out on-loan to the likes of Newport County, Bristol Rovers and Barnsley, before being handed regular football by Graham Potter last season.

McBurnie grasped his chance with both hands and ended the term with 24 goals across all competitions, however, he couldn't help the Welsh outfit to mount a promotion challenge.

Swansea will undoubtedly be targeting the playoffs as a minimum in 2019-20 and McBurnie feels he is in a great position to help them.

McBurnie told the club's official website: "I feel a better player, that was really my start as a senior player for the Swans and to play every week in the Championship was a great step for me.

"It put me in a better place, I know things now that I didn't 12 months ago and I want to put all that to good use and have an even better season and score more goals.

"I definitely understand the physical demands of the league an awful lot better, I know what it feels like to play Saturday, Tuesday and Saturday.

"It's just all the little details that add up, I feel like a better player, a more rounded player and a more accomplished player.

"I know how to get myself in the right positions and I want to make sure I use all that in the season ahead.

"It's going to be exciting."
