West Brom tempted to keep Barry
West Bromwich Albion are willing to give Gareth Barry a new contract as he tries to prove he is worthy of fresh terms.
The former England international is set to be officially released this week alongside Boaz Myhill and James Morrison.
Barry is still planning to train with the club as he tries to work on his fitness following surgery earlier this year.
The Premier League's record appearance maker has been working at the club's facilities for the last few months and new boss Slaven Bilic has refused to rule out a new contract.
At 38, Barry is still planning to play on for one more year and he is looking to add to his 50 appearances for the Baggies.
Confirming West Brom's plans, technical director Luke Dowling told the Express and Star: "He had an operation at the end of the season, we missed him at certain times.
"We've shown him that care and let him do his rehab. I've seen many situations when a player starts his rehab and the manager thinks 'I'll have a little look at him actually!' That's the situation we're in."
