Anderson not giving up on England

17th December 2017, 17:35 by Daniel McCarthy

England star James Anderson says they can still overhaul the 2-0 deficit to Australia, despite being close to defeat in the third Test.

England are 127 runs behind Australia after the fourth day of the third Test ended early due to rain in Perth, with Australia having declared on their first innings with a score of 662-9.

The tourists must try and bat out the final day to hold any hopes of saving the Test as they look to avoid the humiliation of losing the Ashes urn with two more Tests still remaining.

Anderson bowled 37.3 overs in Australia's mammoth haul of 662 runs but he insists the game is not over despite many being resigned to defeat.

“It’s been a long few days. We’re still fighting, we’re still in the game. We have a lot of hard work to do, we’ll believe and come in tomorrow with a good attitude, and show the fight we have in the team," Anderson told the Telegraph.

"We are in a position where if we lose tomorrow, the series is gone," he said. "So we have to give it everything to try to stay in this game and this series."
