Ballance welcomes Yorkshire recruits

22nd March 2020, 16:06 by Gareth Freeman

Yorkshire batsman Gary Ballance says new arrivals Ravi Ashwin and Dawid Malan will help him raise his game further.

Ballance has been Yorkshire's leading run-scorer in the County Championship in each of the last three seasons but he feels he can still improve alongside Malan and Ashwin.

"Being able to face Ravi in the nets for a long period of time can only be beneficial," said Ballance, as reported by the York Press. "You always want to test yourself against the best bowlers in the world, so to have one in our squad will help."

He added: "Signing Dawid with all his international experience and thousands of first-class runs behind him, he will be a great addition for us.

"I toured with him for that Ashes series [2017/18], and he did well. He got a great hundred at Perth, and it showed what a quality player he is.

"He will fit in well with the group. His knowledge of batting will not only be great for the young guys, but I'm sure the likes of myself and Lythy [Adam Lyth] can pick things up from him. It's not often you get the opportunity to add a world-class player to your squad when signing domestically, so it's great that we managed to do that."
