Paul pulls up with quad injury

11th February 2019, 18:29 by Simon Barlow

West Indies all-rounder Keemo Paul was stretchered off with a quadriceps strain on day three of the third Test against England.

The 20-year-old from Guyana damaged his right quadriceps while fielding to deal a significant blow to the Windies as they chase a series whitewash over England in St Lucia.

The incident occurred in the fourth over of the morning as Paul set off in pursuit of a Joe Denly cover drive off Shannon Gabriel.

After initially sprinting at full tilt, he pulled up suddenly ten metres from the boundary, and fell to the ground as soon as he had left the field of play.

The youngster continued to receive treatment behind the rope as play continued, before being carted off around the perimeter of the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium to sympathetic applause.

West Indies announced soon afterwards that Paul had suffered a right quadriceps strain, adding that he was "unlikely to return to field before tea."
