Bravo sets sights on 100 Tests

4th February 2019, 19:08 by Tom McGarry

Darren Bravo has set his sights on playing 100 Tests for the West Indies following his impressive return to the fold.

The 29-year-old batsman made his first test appearance in over two years during the ongoing series with England and he has helped the Windies move into an unassailable 2-0 lead with just one match left to play.

Bravo, who has been seen as more of an ODI and Twenty20 specialist over recent years, produced a defensive masterclass during the second Test in Antigua, reaching 50 off 216 balls and spending 342 minutes at the crease.

That helped the West Indies build a first innings lead that ultimately contributed to their success and Bravo, who has made 51 Test appearances to date, is now hoping to enjoy a sustained spell in team, with 100 caps being his ultimate goal.

"My goal as a kid was to play 100 Tests," Bravo was quoted as saying by ESPN. "And it was my goal when I made my debut.

"It's still my goal. I don't think anything can replace that, actually. I'm on 51 now, so I've a few more to go. Hopefully I can play for another five years and achieve that. Test cricket is most definitely the best test of a player."

"This - playing for West Indies - is my main focus. I'm available for all three formats and I'm happy to be back."

Bravo is in line to make his 52nd Test appearance when the Windies take on England in Saint Lucia - that match is due to get underway on Saturday.
