Hales pens new Notts deal

2nd September 2019, 10:54 by James Mason

Alex Hales says Nottinghamshire "is like home to me now" after he signed a new contract until the end of the 2021 campaign.

Hales has endured a tumultuous few months after he was suspended in April following an "off-field incident", which ultimately cost him his place in England's World Cup-winning squad.

The 30-year-old has been working hard to turn things around since that situation and he has now been rewarded by his county with a new white-ball contract that keeps him at the club for another two years.

Since joining Notts in 2008, the batsman has amassed 6,415 runs in white-ball cricket at a combined average of 34.34, hitting 41 fifties and 11 centuries in that time with his highest score of 187 not out coming in the Outlaws' 2017 Royal London One-Day Cup Final victory over Surrey.

Reacting to his extension, Hales says he grateful for the faith shown in him by Notts and he is looking forward to the seasons ahead.

"Notts is like home to me now. I couldn't really envisage playing anywhere else," he told the club's official website. "I've made some great memories here already and hopefully there's many more to come.

"Being able to call Trent Bridge my home ground always has been something special, and it's something none of us take for granted. After a tough start to the summer, everyone at the club has been brilliant with me.

"I want to repay the faith they have shown and that will continue to be my aim for at least the next two years."
