Injury concern for England skipper

30th January 2019, 12:33 by Nick Harris

England skipper Joe Root has had an injury scare after being struck on the hand in the nets prior to the second Test in Antigua.

The Yorkshireman needed treatment after being hit by two consecutive deliveries that spat up from a length in the nets and rapped him on his fingers and thumb.

Root broke his hand on the tour of the West Indies back in 2014 and he will be anxious not to suffer the same problem on this tour and, after resuming his batting practice later in the day, he said being hit "was all part of the job".

England certainly need their batting practice after being skittled out for 77 in the first Test and losing by a a massive 381 runs, while Root himself needs some runs as his form has suffered a dip of late.
