Jordan gives credit to England batsmen

9th March 2019, 12:29 by Jack Ogalbe

Chris Jordan praised England's all-round effort after they claimed an unassailable 2-0 lead in the T20 series against the West Indies.

After winning Tuesday's opening match in St Lucia, the tourists made a stuttering start on Friday in St Kitts, finding themselves at 32-4.

However, a career-best 87 from Sam Billings steadied the ship alongside Joe Root's 55 as Eoin Morgan's side completed their 20 overs at 182-6.

The Windies wilted in reply, making just 45 – the second lowest total in the history of T20 internationals - with Jordan in particularly fine fettle, recording figures of 4-6.

Those numbers were the best recorded by an Englishman in the shortest format but the 30-year-old says the platform the batsmen gave him was just as vital to the result.

He said: "I've been working hard at my game, trying to improve certain areas and I set my standards high. It clicked and came off here - I got on a roll and kept it going.

"After struggling early on, the way Root and Billings batted to get us into that position and go out there with some confidence as a bowling unit was brilliant. If not for them we wouldn't have been in a position to put in a performance like that."

The two nations conclude their three-match series on Sunday with a second meeting in Basseterre.
