Karunaratne thrilled to sign for Hampshire
Sri Lanka batsman Dimuth Karunaratne says he “could not be happier” after signing county deal with Hampshire.
The 30-year-old has good pedigree after scoring eight centuries in 60 Tests for Sri Lankan while also captaining them to a series victory against South Africa earlier this month.
He also made three 50s in their Test series loss against England before Christmas.
The left-hander will be available for 10 County Championship matches after signing a deal until July when the T20 Blast starts, and says he is very much looking forward to getting going.
He said: “It has always been my dream to play in the County Championship and I couldn’t be happier for it to be at a county like Hampshire.
“I am looking forward to continue building on the success from 2018 by playing an important role in Hampshire’s future.’”
Hants’ director of cricket, Giles White, added: “It’s a great coup to have him here. Dimuth is a perfect fit for us as a top-order batsman.
“Availability and a top-order batsman were the key factors when we were looking for an overseas player, so we’re delighted to welcome him for what will be his first taste of county cricket.”
