Kiwi all-rounder signs for Derbyshire

3rd December 2018, 17:51 by Bobbie Jackson

All-rounder Logan van Beek has joined Derbyshire as their overseas player for the entire 2019 campaign.

The 28-year-old grandson of former Test cricketer Sammy Guillen, who represented both West Indies and New Zealand, will be available for all formats of the game.

Van Beek recently turned out for New Zealand A and has previously featured for the Netherlands at the 2014 ICC World Twenty20.

Head of cricket Dave Houghton believes Van Beek’s game will make him a great asset to have at the County Ground.

Houghton said: "We were looking for a specific type of cricketer, someone to enhance our bowling attack.

"Logan came highly recommended by our contacts in New Zealand. He gets his wickets with balls that are pitched up and that's a good length in England, especially in the early season.

"He's on the verge of New Zealand side and bursting to try and get in. That's the type of cricketer we want - guys who are here with a point to prove."
