Malan added to ODI party

13th January 2018, 15:01 by Gareth Freeman

Dawid Malan is set to be added to the England one-day squad for the series in Australia as Ben Stokes appears set to miss out.

Stokes was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm in September after an incident outside a Bristol nightclub.

The 26-year-old all-rounder was named in the Ashes and ODI squads but was told he would not be considered for selection until the issue was resolved.

As the situation has yet to be resolved, he remains unavailable and batsman Malan is now set to be added to the ODI squad.

The 30-year-old has never played for England in a 50-over match but could be involved against Australia, having made his international debut in a Twenty20 international against South Africa last summer.

The first of the five ODI matches takes place on January 14 in Melbourne, before matches in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.
