Morgan set for World Cup opener despite fracture

24th May 2019, 18:37 by Gareth Freeman

Captain Eoin Morgan has sustained a fractured finger but should be fit for England's World Cup opener.

Morgan took a knock to his left index finger during catching drills on Friday and an X-ray has since revealed a small flake fracture.

The England skipper will miss a warm-up match against Australia in Southampton on Saturday but he is expected to recover in time for the start of the World Cup.

Hosts England, who are the pre-tournament favourites, open their World Cup campaign against South Africa at The Oval on May 30.
