Sun delay can't stop India success

India eased to an eight-wicket DL victory over New Zealand in the first one-day international despite sun stopping play.

The Kiwis could only manage a woeful 157 in their knock and were all out with 12 overs of their allotted 50 unused.

The Asians were 44-1 in their run chase when the umpires took the players from the Napier pitch as the sun was shining directly into the batsmen's eyes.

Following a half hour delay, the target was revised to 156 from 49 overs and Virat Kohli's side got home with more than 15 overs to spare.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan ended unbeaten on 75 while the captain made 45 but it was Kohli's bowlers that set up the triumph.

Kuldeep Yadav claimed 4-39 while Mohammed Shami took 3-19 and Yuzvendra Chahal chipped in with 2-43.

Black Cats' skipper Kane Williamson top-scored with 64 in an otherwise dismal batting display.

The second of five ODIs takes place in Tauranga on Saturday.
