Surrey star heading to Australia

6th December 2018, 14:24 by Bobbie Jackson

Melbourne Stars have added England fast bowler Liam Plunkett to their roster for the Big Bash this winter.

The 33-year-old has been drafted in to replace injured Lancashire leg-spinner Matt Parkinson after he sustained a back injury.

Parkinson had already been ruled out of the England Lions tour of the UAE due to a stress fracture but further scans have revealed he is not yet ready to return to training.

"I'm determined to get fully fit over the next couple of months," said Parkinson.

"Hopefully the Big Bash is an opportunity that will come around again in the future."

Melbourne Stars have moved to ensure they have adequate options and Plunkett will join for the second half of the Twenty20 tournament, which starts on December 19.
