Vasconcelos' campaign ended prematurely
Northamptonshire ace Ricardo Vasconcelos has been ruled out for the rest of 2019 due to an ankle injury.
The South African injured his ankle during last week's County Championship victory over Derbyshire and requires surgery to correct the issue.
He has been a key figure for the Division Two side this season, scoring 750 runs at an average of 46.87, and leaves Northants short for the remaining months of the term.
Vasconcelos told the club's official website: "I'm extremely disappointed to get injured at such a crucial part of the season. I think it would be tough no matter what type of season I was having but I do think it makes it a bit harder because on a personal level there's not that many times you are able to get a 1000 runs in a season and I was on track to do so, so of course it makes it a bit harder to take."
Northants currently sit third in Division Two, 13 points shy of second-place Glamorgan, and Vasconcelos is confident they can still earn promotion.
He added: "Of course I still think we can go up, there's enough talent in that dressing room to achieve anything. Obviously I would love to be a part of the promotion push, but I'll be supporting the boys all the way from the sidelines."
