Warne gives Stoinis backing
Marcus Stoinis has the ability to become a crucial player for Australia across all forms of the game, according to Shane Warne.
Stoinis is a regular fixture in Australia's T20 team and has also become settled in the 50-over format last year, leading to suggestions he will be part of the 2019 World Cup side.
However, the 29-year-old is yet to make his Test debut and there are calls for the all-rounder to be called up due to the recent failures of Tim Paine's side against India.
Aussie legend Warne, who took 708 Test wickets during his career, is one of those pushing for Stoinis to be given a chance, saying the Perth-born star can be a pivotal player.
"I think once the penny drops for Marcus Stoinis he can play for Australia in all forms for a long period of time," he told Fox Cricket. "I've been saying all summer (Stoinis) can play red-ball cricket, and I don't think it's straight competition between him and Mitch Marsh.
"He can play as a batsman. He's an absolute weapon."
