Overmars delighted to land Alvarez
Director of football Marc Overmars feels Edson Alvarez is the type of player Ajax need, after agreeing a fee with Club America.
Alvarez, 21, has been linked with a number of clubs this summer but it is the Eredivisie giants who appear to have won the race for his signature.
The Amsterdam outfit announced that they have agreed a £14m deal with the Mexican club, with the defensive midfielder set to pen a five-year deal subject to a medical.
Ajax were in the market for a defensive-minded player after Matthijs de Ligt's move to Juventus and Overmars is happy with their choice.
"I think he has the right age - 21 years old, he's a regular starter for the Mexico national team and we know him very well because we've been following him for quite some time now," he said. "He's 's had good development, and he's versatile."
