Bottas wants to see Williams step up
Williams' appointment of new drivers in Robert Kubica and George Russell has to be seen as a positive, according to Valtteri Bottas.
The Finn made his Formula One debut with Williams, spending four years on their books, before joining Mercedes as Nico Rosberg’s replacement in 2017.
His former team have struggled to compete following his exit and they finished bottom of the Constructors’ Championship in 2018 with just seven points.
Williams will embark on a new era in 2019 with Kubica returning to the sport to drive alongside rookie Russell, and Bottas is excited to see how they develop.
Bottas said: “For Robert it will be nice to see how it goes.
“He’s been out of racing for a while, so it will be nice to see how he compares to George Russell.
“I think for the team, that has had a tough team – and I know how difficult it is to keep up the motivation and the good spirit when things are tough – maybe a new drivers’ line-up will bring more positivity and things to look forward.
“I’m sure they’ll be full of energy, both drivers, for the great opportunity they’re both having. Hopefully that will help put Williams where they deserve to be and not where they are now.”
