Boullier - We need to improve

16th April 2018, 16:07 by Tom Hill

McLaren's racing director Eric Boullier insists his team are struggling to understand their lack of pace this season.

The British-based team are struggling for pace in qualifying after the first three races of the campaign.

Spaniard Fernando Alonso has managed to perform on race days to climb to sixth in the Championship after he claimed three points finishes. However, he and Stoffel Vandoorne have both qualified outside the top 10 at all grands prix's so far and Boullier admits it is an issue.

He said: "We need to understand why we are slow in qualifying, why we are better in the race and why we are behind the other Renault teams.

"The car has matched all the targets, so maybe that means the targets were not the right ones and we need to revise in terms of ambitions what we need to achieve."
