F1 exit not on my mind - Hulkenberg

9th August 2019, 14:22 by James Mason

Renault's Nico Hulkenberg says he is enjoying his time in Formula 1 and is not looking to leave the sport for Formula E.

As things stand, Hulkenberg doesn't have a contract with the French manufacturer for the 2020 season and there are reports claiming the team are looking at other drivers to partner Daniel Ricciardo.

The 31-year-old has struggled for form this year and currently occupies 14th spot in the World Championship, having recorded only four top-10 finishes from 12 races.

Reports state the German could be tempted by a switch to Formula E or WEC, but he has poured cold water over them after insisting he still wants to compete in F1.

He was quoted as saying by GrandPrix247: "I'm not ready for Formula E yet. I like what I'm doing. It will obviously depend on the opportunities available but, for now, I'm focusing exclusively on Formula 1.

"There are always rumours, it's like that in F1. I'm still pretty confident about staying in Formula 1. There is not much that has changed since last week."
