Ferrari an option for Bottas

19th July 2019, 16:24 by Neil Foster

Valtteri Bottas would consider moving to Ferrari but his priority is to extend his stay at Mercedes.

Bottas is currently in his third season with Mercedes and looks set to play second fiddle to Lewis Hamilton once again.

The 29-year-old Finn is 39 points behind his table-topping team-mate having won two grands prix to the Brit's seven.

He is under contract until the end of 2019 and will then have to see how things pan out, with an extension at Mercedes preferable but a switch to the Scuderia not out of the question.

"I would like to extend the contract for next season," he told France's Canal Plus. "I think I've proved to the team that I deserve to stay at Mercedes, but we will have to wait a few more races.

"Nothing has been signed yet, but I am trying to keep making progress so that everything should be fine.

"If I have to leave Mercedes, then I would like to be at the team that is in second place. At the moment that is Ferrari, yes."
