Ferrari chief not giving up on 2019

8th August 2019, 12:38 by Craig Smithson

Ferrari will not focus on the 2020 Formula 1 season despite a disappointing 2019, according to team principal Mattia Binotto.

It is being suggested the Scuderia are ready to give up on the current campaign given the team trail Mercedes by 150 points in the Constructors' Championship, while driver Sebastian Vettel is 94 points adrift of Lewis Hamilton in the race to be world champion.

However, Binotto is adamant they will not put all their eggs in one basket by purely looking forward to being ready for next year.

"Should we concentrate [entirely] on next year's car? I don't think so," he is quoted by F1i.com.

"Not only because having the same regulations next year, whatever we can do this year will be a good benefit for next year's car as well.

"There are still many races and so far no victory for Ferrari, so I think we have a goal and a target, and I think we should do whatever we can to finish this season to do our best."
