Max expects Ricciardo regret

29th December 2018, 11:10 by Jack Ogalbe

Max Verstappen believes former Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo will regret leaving the team for Renault.

The Australian was part of the Milton Keynes outfit for 10 years and has himself conceded that joining his new team could be a gamble that sees him initially drop down the grid.

Red Bull have switched to Honda power units for 2019, while Renault say their initial target is to continue working on their engine in order to be competitive in 2020.

Ricciardo's decision to leave contradicted his previous claim that he wanted to drive the strongest car possible next year and Verstappen believes he will regret his decision to leave.

He told AD: "It was fun and pleasant to have him as a teammate. It is not often that you have such a good relationship with someone. Maybe it will never happen again, indeed.

"But miss him…? I think that Daniel is going to miss what he had here."
