Ocon eager to work well with Ricciardo

17th February 2020, 18:23 by Neil Foster

Esteban Ocon is keen to avoid a repeat of his tense relationship with Sergio Perez when he partners Daniel Ricciardo at Renault.

Ocon, 23, is now back in the sport after missing out on a drive in 2019, and will line up alongside the Australian at the Enstone-based marque.

The Frenchman made his Formula 1 debut for Manor midway through the 2016 campaign before racing for Force India in 2017 and 2018.

He enjoyed ten top-10 finishes in 2018 and will now hope to pick up where he left off, albeit with another team.

Renault team boss Cyril Abiteboul recently admitted that he would have to watch the pair carefully after his troubles with Perez but it seems as though Ocon may have learnt the error of his ways.

"What happened at Force India is not something I want to redo again," he said. "It was not a nice atmosphere. We had respect - me and Checo [Perez] - and it didn't slow down the team or anything but the atmosphere between us was not so good.

"On track we came close too many times, that was clear, and that was not good. It's not something I want to do again."
