Red Bull to receive engine upgrade - Horner

15th July 2019, 19:24 by Neil Foster

Christian Horner has revealed Honda will be supplying Red Bull and Toro Rosso with an engine upgrade after the summer break.

Red Bull currently sit third in the Formula 1 standings after the British Grand Prix but are still way off the pace set by Mercedes.

Ferrari are second and both teams are realistically fighting for second place in the Constructors' Championship.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen is third in the drivers' standings and has managed to hang into the coattails of Valtteri Bottas, with six-time British GP champion Lewis Hamilton out in front.

Honda will deliver the package at either Spa or Monza, with Verstappen and Pierre Gasly set to pick up engine penalties for taking a new engine.

"We will probably change the engines at Monza or Spa, but it depends," said Horner. "Monza has always been a good place to start with a grid penalty.

"I think they can still get more performance but they are definitely closing the gap."
