Verstappen pairing will be great - Gasly

22nd December 2018, 18:31 by James Mason

Pierre Gasly is confident he and Max Verstappen will form a good pairing at Red Bull for the 2019 season.

Daniel Ricciardo, who has won seven grands prix during his career, left Red Bull after five years following the conclusion of the 2018 campaign and he will be racing for Renault next year.

Frenchman Gasly was chosen as the 29-year-old's replacement after serving his apprenticeship at Toro Rosso, and big things are expected from the Rouen-born star, who won the 2016 GP2 Series title.

It is sure to be an interesting combination at Red Bull with Verstappen and Gasly on the books, but the latter is looking forward to the challenge and can't wait to partner the Dutchman.

"It will be my first season with the team so there will be quite a few things to learn and get used to but I see it as a great opportunity," he said.

"Max is probably one of the most talented on the grid at the moment, so to be next to someone like this is always a good opportunity to show I have good potential.

"I am really excited for next year and hopefully we can have a good car and fight towards the top of the rankings."
