Dortmund tie down CEO Watzke

13th February 2018, 14:16 by Aidan Perkins

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has signed a new contract with the Bundesliga giants to keep him at the club until 2022.

Watzke has been in charge of BVB behind the scenes since 2005 and his current terms were set to expire next year.

Club president Reinhard Rauball says Watzke and managing director Thomas Tress, who has also signed a new contract, are both vital to the club's ongoing success.

He said in a club statement: "The sporting and economically extremely successful development of Borussia Dortmund since 2005 is inextricably linked to the work of Hans-Joachim Watzke and his managing director Thomas Tress.

"They have a tremendous bond of trust that has grown in the last 13 years. We want to express this confidence in their abilities and their day-to-day commitment early by extending the contracts.

"Borussia Dortmund is committed to continuity."
